Dance of the 7 veils [Jan. 21st, 2008|10:33 pm]

[Current Mood |anxiousApprehensive]

I've signed myself up for a workshop on "2-7 veils" with Leyla Jouvana at Jewel of Yorkshire in April. It includes taking a look at the Dance of Ishtar, reputed to be the origin of the 'dance of the 7 veils'.

Obviously this means I'm going to need 7 matching veils! So I've ordered 7 semi-circular chiffon veils in various shades of purple. I did manage to find a site where they are not too expensive, which is good because I had to pay with paypal and I don't have a paypal account, so I now owe my other half! Now I just need to hope that they arrive in time for me to familiarise myself with the way that they move, and also that they are good enough quality.

Hi there! My name is Adrienne. I found you through the LJ interests directory.

I'm a bellydancer too (although still a newbie :x), and I'm looking to meet new bellydancing friends. Do you mind if I add you?

PS: What kind of bellydance are you dancing? Maybe you mentioned it in your profile, but I didn't see.

Thanks. :)

Ahh, I see. Gothic, I presume? Neat. I love that style.

I'll shut up now. XD

Hi! Feel free to friend me, although I'll warn you that I do tend to write enormous reviews of every class and workshop I attend!

Mostly I do Egyptian style bellydance, but I also dance with a bunch of tribal girls (urban gypsy type tribal, not American tribal) and obviously there's a fair bit of gothic style in my free-dance!

Are you a dancer in the UK? There are a few bellydance communities out there, but they are mostly based in the US or Australia and it can be very depressing to hear about an amazing workshop that you'd love to go to, and then realise that it's being held in Seattle or Melbourne! bellydance_uk was set up to try to overcome this, but it's still a very small community at the moment. Still, we all have to start somewhere! Feel free to sign up to that too ;)

Incidentally, we have even more in common than you might think...

This is my second journal, started so that I didn't keep annoying my non-dancer friends with vast treasties on bellydance. My main journal is lilith_k, feel free to friend me under that name is you wish.

We do have a lot in common! I've added both your journals. :)

I'm actually in the States, but thank you for the link! I've thought about relocating to the UK, so I will keep that in mind.

Have you spoken to Ceri? I think she's planning on going, she might be looking for a room-mate!
